3D laser scanning for decommissioning and demolition planning of aging plants and industrial facilities

Long-term operated plants and industrial facilities may experience discrepancies between existing drawings and actual conditions due to repeated equipment modifications, replacements, and expansions. Especially in dismantling and demolition projects, accurately understanding the currently installed piping, equipment, structures, and surrounding space serves as an important foundation for establishing the scope of work and execution plans.
JANGSUNG HDS uses 3D laser scanning and precision measurement to accurately record the actual geometry and location of facilities targeted for dismantling, building them into high-density point clouds and As-Built spatial data. Based on the actual data acquired in the field, it reviews equipment layouts and structural relationships that are difficult to verify with existing drawings alone, and provides objective foundational data for defining the dismantling scope and engineering.

3D Laser Scanning & As-Built Documentation

Digitally record the current state of items to be dismantled and their surrounding space by 3D scanning piping, equipment, steel structures, module interfaces, stairs, walkways, and surrounding facilities. The generated point cloud can be used as As-Built data for dismantling and demolition engineering, such as checking dimensions and shapes at required locations, extracting cross-sections, or comparing existing design data with actual site conditions.

Scope Definition & Removal Planning

Accurate 3D as-is data can be utilized to review the location of the structure to be demolished, its relationship with surrounding facilities, workspace, and access conditions. Through this, it is possible to distinguish between objects to be demolished and those to be preserved, define the scope of work more clearly, and review in advance the spatial information necessary for establishing a demolition work plan, such as equipment evacuation routes and potential interference with surrounding structures.

Dimensional Control & Engineering Support

Using 3D scanning and precision measurement data, the locations, dimensions, and connection relationships of major facilities and structures can be verified. Depending on the project objectives, it provides precise as-is data required for subsequent engineering, such as shape analysis of dismantling targets, review of connection parts and interfaces, and verification of positional relationships between existing facilities and surrounding structures.

Remote Site Review & Digital Documentation

By utilizing 3D scan data and on-site images, you can repeatedly review the shape of the target facility and its surrounding space from the office even after visiting the site. By sharing the same digital site information, design, demolition, and construction personnel can more efficiently conduct work scope consultations, check site conditions, and perform engineering reviews.
